FACT SHEET
MISSION: The Band of Long Island’s primary mission is to assist other not-for-profit organizations in raising funds to support their worthy causes and activities. The band’s performers make this happen by playing concerts, giving workshops, and being involved in a variety of special activities. The Band of Long Island (BOLI) is a tax-exempt, 501 (c) 3 corporation.
To date BOLI has raised more than $150,000 for worthy organizations. These funds extend our audience geometrically, as they are used by other not-for-profits to expand their own networks and therefore enlarge and further diversify the band’s community and audience.
ACTIVITIES IN SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY: Through its concerts, workshops and special projects, the Band of Long Island serves as many as 10,000 people annually with a variety of concerts. It audience is a diverse group, including of people of all ages and gender, from school-aged children to senior citizens, and all of those in between.
DONATED AND IN-KIND SERVICES: In additional to the music services, including reduction of the conductor’s fees, and waving of musicians fees in order to further the Band’s general mission, the Band of Long Island benefits from donated grant writing and secretarial services, to compile mailing lists qnd maintain its music library, as well as website maintenance and hosting for changes and concert schedule updates.
THE NEED FOR THE BAND’S SERVICES: Particularly in difficult economic times, the need for the Band of Long Island’s services is more pronounced. Our website, for example, is currently being re-tooled and upgraded to enable the Band to further its mission in a number of important ways. The most significant of these is providing greater accesses to not-for-profits who we assist with our services in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the community-at-large.
SPREADING THE WORD: Through social media and other means, the re-designed website will expand ways to market concerts and increase visibility. For the Band of Long Island, the ability of more organizations to find us easily, so they can avail themselves or our talents and services to expand their fundraising activities effectively in new ways for their own causes, is crucial to our mission.
