​BOLI has performed at the Conference of the Association of Concert Bands – a coveted and prestigious invitation that has been extended three times to the band within the last decade – and was told it "May very well be the best band to perform in the 26-year history of the Association."
 
While he is retiring from the podium, Maestro Flamhaft is not entirely leaving the Band. An accomplished player himself, he will join the trombone section (disguised) as a second trombonist. He is also an in-demand arranger with several published works to his credit, many of which were premiered by the Band of Long Island.
 
The Band of Long Island was founded in 1995 by a small group of musicians who wanted to play in a high-quality concert band. The players joined by invitation only. The Band’s mission is to assist other not-for-profit organizations in raising funds to support their worthy causes and activities. BOLI’s performers make this happen by playing concerts, giving workshops, and being involved in a variety of special activities. To date the Band of Long Island has raised more than $150,000 for worthy organizations. Along the way it has performed for the Ronald MacDonald House, which supports families of children with cancer, for Veterans Organizations, the Rotary Clubs of Long Island, and the Lions Eye Bank, among many others.
